pest control

We appreciate how pesky pests can be but we are unable to offer a pest removal service. It is the responsibility of tenants to deal with all pests, including rats, in their properties and gardens. We've put together some of our frequently asked questions which you may find helpful.photo of a pest control officer

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is responsible for dealing with pests?
Tenants are responsible for dealing with all pests, including rats, in their properties and gardens.

We are happy to advise you on how to deal with pests and the types of organisations who can help. Call 0845 849 2000 and ask to speak to your Neighbourhood Officer.

Who can remove pests for me?
There are several operators, both local and national, listed in the telephone directories who offer a pest control service. You can find links to these directories at the bottom of the page.

Who is responsible where pests are entering homes through holes in brickwork etc?
We will inspect our properties and if appropriate carry out repairs where pests are gaining access where it should not be possible for them to do so. Call us on 0845 849 2000 option 1 to report such repairs.

What can be done if I have rats in my home or garden?
If you have rats in your home or garden you should arrange for a pest control firm to deal with them. If you are unable to pay the cost of this service please speak to your Neighbourhood Officer who may be able to assist you.

The pests are being attracted by the condition of my neighbours garden what can I do?
If speaking to your neighbour does not help you can contact the Council's Environmental Health department who may be able to help. If your neighbour is a Shoreline tenant please let your Neighbourhood Officer know and they will visit them and try to resolve the issue.

Why have we got rats, mice or other vermin?
Vermin are attracted by food supplies and if you feed birds or other animals vermin may also join the feast. This is especially true if food is left out overnight. When disposing of left over food please ensure it is secured in your bin so that rats and other pests cannot get at it.

If you wish to feed birds please use an approved bird feeder.

I thought the Council provided a pest control service?

North East Lincolnshire Council no longer provide this service. You can find out more information by clicking on this link to their A to Z entry on Pest Control.
