reunited in their new home
A Grimsby couple were reunited in their new home after being separated for the first time in seventy years.
James and Hilda Eckles have been tenants with Shoreline and formerly North East Lincolnshire Council for nearly seventy years but have been separated for the last six weeks while Mrs Eckles has been in hospital.
Now the couple have been reunited in their new home at Matthew Quinn House, one of Shoreline’s sheltered housing schemes.

Shoreline quickly found accommodation for the couple after ill health meant that Mrs Eckles was unable to return to the family home at Byron Grove, which the couple had occupied since 1938.
Shoreline Neighbourhood Officer Tina Key who arranged the move said: “We wanted to make sure that the couple had all their needs met and that they had a home that they could both move in to as soon as possible within the community that they have spent so much of their time.”
Shoreline Area Manager Clare James said: “I think this is the least we could do to assist a couple who have been tenants for nearly 70 years. I hope they will have many happy years to come living at Matthew Quinn House.”
The delighted couple were welcomed to their home on Monday March 26, 2007 by their family, friends and Shoreline staff and in a double celebration the couple explained that it was actually their 68th wedding anniversary.
Matthew Quinn Scheme Officer Beverley Bland, said: “I really welcome them both to Matthew Quinn House. It’s lovely to see a couple who have spent so much time together but still enjoy each others company.
“As officer of the scheme I’m here to provide support and assistance when it is needed but we also like to create a communal feeling where everyone feels secure, happy and respected.
“We’re all really looking forward to getting to know James and Hilda.”
