Pupils to name housing showpiece
Pupils at Yarborough Primary School have been asked for their thoughts in creating a new identity for the Yarborough estate in preparation for a multi-million-pound rebuild.
Youngsters from the school were asked to give their views on how they might like the new development to look and what they would like it to be called. Yarborough Primary’s Headmaster, Stephen Carr was delighted with their response:
“Clearly this community and its future means a lot to our pupils, so I was really pleased that we were invited to be involved in such an important part of the development. The children relished the task, took their work home and put a lot of time and effort into the project.”
As well as providing a new name, it is anticipated that some of the children’s ideas will inspire the streets, avenues and play areas within the development. The pupils, who were thanked for their input and given some feedback at the school this week, have been invited to a specially arranged event on January 28th, when the new identity will be formally unveiled.
Shoreline director of neighbourhood services Murray Macdonald said: “It was great to see the pupils of the local school embrace the opportunity to find a name for their neighbourhood.
“The area is going through a major transformation and a new name signifies its rebirth and represents the exciting future of this community.
“We are all really looking forward to the special event in January and the work actually beginning in the Spring – there are a lot of exciting times ahead.”
