creating communities to be proud of

Over 600 elderly residents of our sheltered accommodation started surrendering their old worn out slippers for a new free pair at the first of our specially funded exchanges.

In association with Care Trust Plus Falls Prevention Collaborative, all residents aged over 60 years and living in our sheltered accommodation will be able to exchange their worn out dangerous slippers for a brand new safe pair – for free.
“A slipper swap may seem like an unusual project for Shoreline to fund but it is really very simple.
“Every three minutes someone falls over the age of 65 and worn out slippers are a major contribution to the number of falls. By buying our older residents safe footwear, we are helping to reduce this number.”
The series of exchanges – arranged with Malcolm’s of Freeman Street Market - will take place at all schemes over the next three years so residents can exchange in the comfort of their home.
Fall Prevention Collaborative advisors will be on hand to raise awareness and give preventative advice.
Pharmacists will also attend the events and residents are urged to bring any out-of-date medication for safe disposal and replacement.
“We felt that something should be done in North East Lincolnshire to try to reduce the number of older people falling in their home.
“As Shoreline are the major provider of older people’s accommodation in the area, we felt that we could work together to help reduce the number of falls and improve the quality of life for people in the area.
“I’m sure the exchanges will be very popular especially now we are visiting residents in their homes – there’s no need to traipse out in the cold weather.”
Last year 370,000 people fell in the UK as a result of poor footwear.
