creating communities to be proud of

east marsh investment

£2.1 million East Marsh investment

Over two million pounds of security and environmental investment will combat anti-social behaviour and improve the appearance of Grimsby’s East Marsh multi-storey blocks.

The improvements form part of our wider commitment to the transformation of the East Marsh which will also completely regenerate the physical environment of the multi-storeys and the appearance of the area.

We will be:

  • Modernising multi-storey entrances and painting the outside of the blocks
  • Creating recycling and compost areas
  • Creating communal community gardens and landscaping space within the perimeter fence
  • Working with Strand Community School to make the best use of green spaces and create student study areas
  • Removing litter, fly-tipping and graffiti.

The major investment will also address resident concerns about crime and the fear of crime, improve security and tackle anti-social behaviour by;

  • Securing rights of way and alleyways
  • Installing 2 metre high bow top fencing and access points to create a secure space around the high-rise blocks
  • Providing additional cameras to monitor blind spots at front and back doors, multi-storey roof tops and hallways
  • Creating a team of neighbourhood caretakers to provide longer hours of service, seven days a week
  • Increasing the CCTV monitoring team 24 hours a day, seven days a week
  • Improving lighting
  • Establishing a responsive security service
  • Providing secure parking and storage.

The major regeneration project has been developed with East Marsh residents after they raised concerns about unsecured rights of way, the degenerated physical environment, security, crime, the fear of crime, anti-social behaviour and drug-dealing.

A series of six access points will provide secure rights of entry to residents and their visitors.

Each access point will have pedestrian gates alongside vehicle access gates. Dedicated fixed cameras will record entrances and exits along with the possibility of automatic number plate recognition.

Shoreline director of neighbourhood services Murray Macdonald said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to breathe new life into the multi-storey area - we are sure we can create a safe, secure and welcoming neighbourhood that people want to live in.”
