Investment, upgrades and multi-million pound improvements

Up to six million pounds of structural investment, electrical upgrades and fire improvement works will benefit over 630 tenant’s homes in Grimsby’s East Marsh multi-storeys.

The immediate investment needs will be carried out in addition to the existing planned improvements identified to upgrade properties within the six high-rise blocks and the adjoining Comber Place to meet the government Decent Homes Standard. Not all homes in the area will fail the Decent Homes Standards, so works will be targeted over the next few months to those dwellings where works need to be prioritised.

Nelson House, the older persons’ sheltered and supported housing block, already has the infrastructure to support improved upgrades to meet the Shoreline Standard by the end of the current year. These will include additional electrical sockets in kitchens where required and showers over baths.

Some tenant’s homes will only initially receive the minimal work necessary to meet Decent Homes but plans to achieve the additional Shoreline Standard will be met in the remaining properties by 2015.

Shoreline chief executive Tony Bramley said: “We have chosen to implement immediate investment work and to take the opportunity to improve the quality of both the individual properties but also the structure and electrics of the multi-storeys first.

“In light of recent events in the national press, we’ve also carried out full fire risk assessments to ensure the safety and security of residents.”

The improvements will form part of our wider commitment to the transformation of the East Marsh area.

Over the last two years, we have invested two million pounds in security and environmental improvements to combat anti-social behaviour and completely regenerate the physical environment of the multi-storeys securing rights of way, creating communal gardens, providing a dedicated caretaker team and a responsive 24 hour CCTV monitoring service.

We are also keen to ensure that any improvements fit in with the long-term future of the Freeman Street area and the recently launched regeneration proposals.

“With this substantial long-term investment, we are contributing to the wider regeneration of the East Marsh, reinforcing our commitment to improving both people’s homes and the area in which they live.” Tony added.

We’ll inform and involve residents throughout the programme and make sure you play a key role in decision making so there is minimal disruption to their day-to-day lives.

Since 2005, we’ve carried out the refurbishment of over 6500 homes, installed 3308 new kitchens, 3216 new bathrooms as well as central heating systems, roofing repairs and external decoration as part of its £52 million pound refurbishment programme.
